Homestudies

We are foster parents through a private agency. We very much want to adopt in addition to still doing foster care when we are able. Our agency said that since we already work for the agency and since we are looking at special needs children to adopt, they will not charge us to have the homestudy done (it is terribly expensive through this private agency). This is wonderful and I was very excited but it is taking what feels like forever. We have had all of our paperwork done for a month or so and the agency has not done their part yet. We have had the criminal records check, doctors clearance, credits from tons of training classes (we go to all that are offered), references who have already filled out their paperwork, verification of income, you name it . . . . but still not done. There is currently a child on our state's adoption list that I am so very, very interested in and we need this homestudy. I don't know if I dare to be pushy since they are doing it free of charge???

Any opinions, suggestions??

Thanks!

Forever?

One month is not long. In fact, most people would be singing and thanking the stars for such a short period. I took classes last year in August and I just got approved because they were always missing something from my packet. Wait a little longer.

Forever

You are right, just over a month is certainly not forever. Thank you for reminding me to be a bit more patient. All told it has been several months, I think I am just frustrated because we have all the stuff done that they told us to do and now nothing is happening!!

I do know that the right child for our family will come along at the time that is right for us and I need not be so concerned but for some reason the child on the photolisting I saw just pulls at my heartstrings and I feel from speaking to her caseworker that she would be a great fit with my family. Of course, if she's the right child for us she will still be there when our homestudy gets done.

In the meantime, I still wish they would do whatever they need to do - type the darn thing up! I'd volunteer my (minimal)secretarial skills for free!

Oh well, it's nice to know we aren't the only ones waiting and it's reassuring when i get to read the happy posts of people who have found their children.

We waited 2 1/2 months.

Be patient, but don't wait TOO long, either. ) I called our caseworker every 2 weeks or so to keep up to speed and to see what he had/didn't have and make sure I had done all I was supposed to, etc.
