Finalization was today

I am not apt to cry easily, but leave it to Travis to crack my veneer of self-possessed calm. Travis had spina bifida clinic yesterday, got over-sedated for a CT scan and had to stay at the Ronald McDonald house an extra day with Dad. My younger son and I met up with them at the RMH and drove an hour to the courthouse. Of course we all had to change into court clothes in the van. At least I didn't get arrested for indecent exposure though that was luck. The boys wore their Easter clothes and looked very handsome. We were late. Ten minutes. The courthouse police were looking for us and personally ushered us to the courtroom. I was mortified but not surprised. I will truly be late to my own funeral. The judge departed from his script to ask us about discipline, why we chose to adopt (our youngest is a birth son so folks always are curious, why my husband is a stay-at-home dad. My husband panicked on the stand and gave a brief lecture on our discipline methods ending with "and sometimes physical restraint" He meant the three times in seven months that Trav got a basket hold hug to help him calm down but it sounded more like a strait jacket during his testimony. Nonetheless, at the end of it all Travis is our "lifelong responsibility and heir". That made me cry too. Thanks for being with me through the last year. I'm sticking around to cheer you on. And of course we are looking again. The boys both want to be big brothers. Meg

I am so glad you're staying to cheer us on---I know there'll be days I'll need it!

It's wonderful to know that there are actually people who get to the finalization stage!

Congratulations to your family. : )

Amen to that
I also needed to hear a good finalization story. The wait is hard to endure, but I know it will be well worth it in the end.
Congratulations and I look forward to future post :0)
