Home Studies / Interstate

I was contacted by a family from Florida yesterday who asked if we had any children available for adoption. (I am with an agency) We have a current caseload of 285 children. I told her that I would like her to forward a copy of her home study so that we could determine if we may have a match. She stated that they only way I could get a home study was to request it through interstate compact.

Here is the deal. I have to have a home study to review before I match a child with a family. I can only initiate an interstate compact request for a child specific placement. But I can't so that without a home study first. SO basically that family is out of luck if they choose to go out of state. Our ICPC person stated to me that they should have worked with a private agency and they would have then owned their study and could take it elsewhere.

Interesting?

Cheap - OR - Ignorant

When talking to individuals about adoption I will frequently recommend that they look into a private agency. The State of New Mexico is internationally imfamous for its mismanagement of adoptions.

The general response is, well I didn't want to pay anything. In which I say, so you don't want to adopt... and leave it there.

People are funny...
