Possible special needs - advise needed
Hi everyone, It's been a while since I posted b/c things have been so crazy here. I hope everyone is doing well and congrats to all who have their angels home. I also posted this on the general adoption forum but thought that someone here might have more insight on this situation. Thank you
Our bmom is due around Oct. 10th by a c-section that has yet to be sceduled. She has had no prenatal care and went for the 1st sonogram last week. The results were a bit disturbing. Measurements of biparietal, head circumference, and abdominal Circum intercorrelate well, but the femur length is significantly less than expected, being greater than two standard deviations below young adult standard. Fetal bladder is demonstrated. This could potentially indicate achondroplasia or other dwarfism. This may be secondary to somewhat difficult examination, or could suggest dwarfism. She is going in for an Amino this morning, which is a bit scary hopefully it won't put her into labor. C-sections are scary enough without having to do an emergency one. I've had c-sections and the one's that were planned seem to have been easier for me to deal with. My first was an emergency and we were scared to death about everything that could go wrong. Anyway now I'm rambling, If anyone has an experience with the femur length of the baby being off standard please let me know. I've tried to do some research online but it's all to confusing. Thank you in advance for any input. Sincerely, Rosa

When we've been considering a child with medical issues I've usually contacted my personal friends who are dr's or nurses. I know that not everyone has a friend who's a dr though! I've also taken the information I've had to our pediatrician. He's been very helpful with understanding issues that we were confused about.

With the birth so close to now, hopefully you have been looking into Pediatricians? If so, ask the Pediatrician you have chosen what their take is on this. Hopefully they will be able to give some useful advice.
