My husband and I adopted 2 biological special needs children in 1992. They are 10 & 12 years old now. We live in
Sacramento, CA. I am interested in starting a support group in this area with other adoptive parents. I have been involed with various support groups, but the needs and issues are quite different with what adoptive parents deal with.

I have experianced multiple challenges with our children. My son is diagnosed ADHD, tourettes and has asthma. My daughter is diagnosed ADHD, bipolar 1 early onset, RAD and scoliosis, rapid progression.

I would like to meet other adoptive parents who have had issues with the educational, medical , psychological, AAP, etc. of raising these children. Sometimes I feel as thought I am just spinning my wheels advocating for them.

Please contact me. I am eager to share experiances and ideas.

For post-adoption services most Californians have to whistle in the wind! However, Sierra Adoptions has a Sacramento office and may be of some help. They have a post adoption program, and have a federal grant which provides the services, for anyone in California, of a wonderful lawyer who is a national AAP expert. Ask for Helen. My own agency heads up a pilot regional post-adoption effort but it only covers the South Bay and Monterey Bay areas. We have a terrific web site coming up January 1 and I'll post the url on this board. Hopefully it will help parents with many of the same issues that your family has struggled with.
