How to go about adopting a child with a specific medical disorder

What is the best way to track down children available for adoption with a specific chromosomal disorder (Trisomy 13). 90% of these babies die before age 1 so the process would necessarily need to be expedited. They have major physical and developmental problems. I would imagine most agencies would not consider these children adoptable so would there be another route to finding out about them. Is this a shot in the dark?

Adopting Children with rare conditions

The most economic way of going about it would be to write or email the National Adoption Center, the State of New York DSS, State of California DSS, State of Texas DSS and State of Illinois DSS. Tell them of your interest, and ask them to search their registries for you to see if there's a trisomy 13 infant in need of care. Secondly, contact AASK (Adopt A Special Kid) in your State (or a nearby State if you don't have one). They primarily place physically and mentally challenged children. One other way that I hesitate to tell you about; if you live in a State that permits the practice of independent adoption, is to track down a lawyer or facilitator (unlicensed child trader) who does a lot of business and who may know of a situation in the independent market where the intermediary has "gotten stuck" with an infant with the disorder.
Good luck to you. What a wonderful thing to do for a child. Please tell us if it works out OK.
Graham.
