Question Adoption from WA State

My husband and I are planning on flying out to WA State the end of this month to meet our new son. I was just wondering if anybody else had adopted a special needs child from WA and what kind of experience they had? We are keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well, but since this is our first adoption, we don't know what to expect.

special needs adoption in washington

Hi! i have adopted two and I am awaiting my husbands and mine third. All of our children whom we have adopted have disabilities. Ranging from f.A.S. to bipoar and attatchment disorder. What is the age of the child you are adopting? What county are you adopting from also. I think it all depends on the case. Who your social worker is. Are they telling you everything and not "sugar coating" the issues of the child. Make sure you know everything. The more you know the better you will be able to parent your soon to be child. It will also help you be able to advocate for them. THe first two of our adoptions happened within 16 months of thier birth. This last one has been 4 years. That's the only bummer working with the foster care system. The time it takes....hope that helps...suz....by the way I am from Washington state and have been a foster parent for almost 7 years!!!

Our new son will be 2 the beginning of June and is in the Tacoma area. I have no idea what county that would be. His social worker is from the Dept. of Social and Health Services. We are sooooo excited to meet him in person! We have quite a few pictures of him and his birthday will be the day after we get out there. We are staying for a week to get to know him and to learn how to care for him. They are scheduling doctor appointments while we are there so we can speak with his doctors and ask them any questions we might have. The plan is for him to come home here to MN the beginning of July if everything is in place.
