Question how long does it really take through DSS?

We have started the adoption process through our local DSS office in Greenville, SC. I am a nervous wreck waiting on a phone call from DSS. We submitted our paperwork on 9/12/2011 and have not heard anything to date. I believe the home inspection should be next. Is that not something DSS schedules for us? Has anyone had a sucessful adoption through DSS and if so can you give me a general timeline of how long your process took? Is anyone going through the process?

It takes a few months. You will have a Dhec and Fire inspection. You should have received a letter/packet in your paperwork from DSS. After those, then you will get the DSS home visits. It depends on what age, number of, and all the check boxes on your list as to the time line for placement. I have had a few offered, but not compatible with my family. SoI am still looking and waiting. My signature below my post has my timeline in it. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

looking to foster infants

I am new to the whole foster parenting idea, however I would love to foster infants and toddlers. I am wondering if there is a real need here in sc for foster families for infants and toddlers? I have just requested paperwork from DSS... Thanks, Jennifer

We started the adoption process in July 2011. We finished our classes and submitted paperwork in August. Fire/DHEC inspections and first home study visit were done in October. Our last home study visit was in December. We are currently waiting for our home study to be completed in the next few weeks. How long does it take to receive adoption license after home study is completed/submitted?
