I was born in Charleston S.C. At St.Francis Xavier Hospital, In April Of 1971 to a 16 year old girl and was told my Dad was a Merchant Marine who came to Charleston on a ship. The doctor who delivered me and the attorney that handeled my private adoption was brother's ( Dr.Boench & attorney Cranwell Boench out of Walterboro S.C. After many years of phone calls i have came up with nothing. My wife & I have had many heartaches over the years trying to have kids and running into medical problems and evrytime we are asked about our medical history and background and I am unable to give then any information about me. I feel useless & ashamed i do not know anything about my biological family. If they only knew what it is like. I am getting older now and am having some problems medically and i just wish i knew if this was common in my real family or what do i need to be looking out for. Not knowing anything is killing me. I would suggest that you contact the State of S.C. and ask to be placed on the South Carolina Adoptoin regestry.... you will have to send them a written request for the NON_id info and to be placed on the registry.... the cost is I think still 35.00 but if that is to much u request them place you for free be4cause of finicial hardship.....
and oh ya if they grant u approval it will take 52 wks to recieve any non-id info from the state of S.C.am currently waiting for my own info so I thought I would pass along what little I know...... Now if U have a Termial Illiness U can Petition the Superior court in the County u were adopted in under Medical need to know..... Hope this helps you..... and keep the faith after 36yrs.. I think I will see my son soon have been looking for a long time and I know it gets discouraging; but have hope.....

hi, i also was born in n.c. but i was adopted in s.c. i feel as if i am running into a brick wall. i was born july 29, 1976 and i am male. i think my birth parents must have lived on the n.c.\s.c. border because of my bieng born in n.c.

A lot of girls lived in SC and were sent to NC to have their babies, it appears, that the practice was to have babies born in a different state than where the girls were from, even girls as far as New York were sent all the way to NC. Most likely, you should be looking for records of adoption in SC but birth records in NC. Have you filed for your Non Id? If your adoption was handled by the state of SC you can get you Non Id information and be put on a passive registry. Good luck and best wishes in your search.
