Unhappy My foster records - Advice Please

I pretty much grew up in the foster care system from the age of 7 until I aged-out at 18. My bio-parents rights were terminated and I never saw them again.

When I was 22 I tried to get my foster care records. So I petioned and the state only sent me a summary of what they felt I should get.

Why can't I get all my records? That is my life! When I asked, they said they keep the records forever, but that they do not give the records out, only what they decide.

Is this fair?

Since I aged-out I have struggled to suvive and would like to find out several things from those records, including whether I have any bio-family of any sort.

Anyone have any advice? Thanks....

Each state has its own rules on this. Can you request to review vs get? I agree I don't think it is fair that you don't get that information. Is there any previous foster parents that you could contact to see if they have any info? I wish you luck and hope that you can get the info you should already have.

Can you make an argument about having a medical need to see the records? I've heard that you can sometimes get access to closed records that way.

Or do you know any of the social workers that handled your case that may be able to assist you?

Good luck!!
