Hi, we are adopting 2 girls, siblings 4 yo and 13 yo, our cw told us we were approved for subsidy for both, then says only 13 yo approved, cancelled 4 yo medicaid without telling us (they recieve ssi death benefits from bio-dad, we thougt they got to keep medicaid because of this). Has anybody ever heard of this before??
Thanks sherry234 |

i am not a sw, but...i thought to get the subsidy the child had to have special needs (over 5yo, disabled, sibling group, minority). i don't know about the insurance. i know our son was just to get the insurance till 18 until the cw decided he was actually part aa (mom was white, dad unknown but definitely, obviously aa).
i know the monthly subsidy, if the child gets ssi, it will be reduced by the amt. of the ssi so you can't have both. i don't understand why the medicaid would be affected. i thought all adopted fk got that at least? i am in PA.

In WI any child adopted from foster care is allowed to stay on medicaid, though this may not be the same in other states. Here, it is up to the aparent(s) to decide whether or not they want to put the child on their own health insurance, and even if they do, the child still keeps medicaid as secondary insurance.

It is possible to get SS death benefits in full in addition to the adoption subsidy. The two amounts combined though may put the child over the limit of rec'ing medicaid. That's strange though that one would be cancelled and not the other.
