Social Workers....

If a child that is almost 13 has been in foster care for several years and has a LOT of behavior problems would his social worker accept a homestudy that doesn't exactly match up what his profile says? Here's the deal, his profile says that he would do best in a home where he is the youngest or with siblings that he couldn't manipulate. I have known this child a few years ago and would like to get to know him again and maybe adopt him, but I have two children 7 and 8. Do you think the s.w. would even consider me?
thanks,
bulrusmama

If you know the child, I would encourage you to inquire. You may find out it would not be a good fit or you may do a few visits and think you can manage. You can't know what they'll say unless you ask!

As a worker I would say go for it. The plus for me looking at the homestudy would be knowing that you have a previous relationship with the child. Make sure that info is known.

Thanks guys! I'm waiting for my sw to come back from vacation to see if she'll change my homestudy. She may not be real enthused about doing it since this child is in another state, but we are praying. Apparently his sw visited him on Saturday and he asked about me. I used to take care of him in the group home he was in.
