My three kids want to keep their last name. Does anyone do this? I'm fine with it, I'm adopted and I understand the need for that identity.
My next question is, why does no one seem to do this? There is no safety issue in this case, they are free to contact bio mom and dad when they are 18.

I think the need to change the last name is for belonging to the new family. We didn't change our child's first name but changed the second and gave her our last name...that is pretty normal with any society to give your child your last name. But if you feel they need to keep their identity to their first family then keep the last name.
