do we have any rights?
Hello! We were chosen as the adoptive family for a sibling group, but now a former foster family has petitioned to adopt them as well. The kids were with this family over a year, yet the entire adoption staffing team was adament that this family not get the kids. Do we even have a chance legally since the kids were with them so long? They have been with a different foster family for the past 10 months when DFS removed the kids from the family that now wants to adopt. I'm posting this under a couple of forums because I'm not sure where it belongs and would love to hear as many opinions/experiences as possible - thanks!

If I were one of the researchers or decision makers in a case like this, I would have serious concerns about why the children are no longer in that former foster home. I suspect that there are several very valid reasons to eliminate them and these will come out. Otherwise, the children would still be with them.
It's hard but I would remain patient and level-headed, a competent home where they will want to place children. Focus on what you can do for they children and remain unconcerned about the other petitioner. |
