Trying to get a Therapy Referral
I have been trying for weeks to get a refferal for my FD to have a psych eval. Her pediatrician even wrote a strong recommendation for it and that it needed to be done immediately. I don't understand why this is taking so much time to just fill out a piece of paper and mail it to the behavioral health center. I even gave them the address to send it to and I know the therapist that was recommended contracts with the state. In the mean time I am trying to do my best to help my FD but I know she has huge abandonment issues and she hurts peoples feelings and acts like she doesn't care at all, no remorse, or empathy for others. She is extremely defensive and moody. I bought her a journal because she likes to write and I started to encourage her to write when she is upset and it seems to be helping. The pediatrician thinks she may needs meds for an emotional disorder but until we get a psych eval nothing can be done. I keep calling, leaving messages but her case worker doesn't call back and still has not sent in a referral for treatment. My FD also has now told her pediatrician about the abuse she had reported before she was placed in foster care. The state investigator said that the report was false and my FD was a liar. So, I am wondering if the case worker is dragging her feet because they know once she goes to see a psychiatrist she is going to tell what happened to her and they will have to be held accountable for not doing a real investigation. I have tried to call a children's advocate place and it all comes down to her getting a psych eval and then they will decide what to do from there but why won't anyone working with her see the urgency.

I would strongly suggest you contact the child's lawyer and explain what's been going on. We were promised help with attachment issues for our foster/adopt daughter when she was placed. The paper work mysteriously kept getting lost. After contacting the child's lawyer she got a court order for the the physc. evaluation to take place. It was over a year that we finally got help for my daughter.

with my agency I have always taken the kids to the counselor and then let them take care of the paperwork. I found that if I just take the lead to get things done I lessen the flustration that went with waiting for the state to get their side done. Maybe I have just been allowed to to this with my agency but if you can't receive any support from caseworker go to the next higher up, keep going until things are resolved. It's painful to sit there and try to help solve your fd problems without support and you shouldn't have to. Let us know how things work out.

We finally got in this week for an intake. Things went very well and hopefully we will all see some brighter days ahead. Thanks for all your suggestions and support. I am learning that you have to definately be stubborn and loud about getting what you want for your kids. I am happy with the outcome and how things went.
