When singles were first being considered as potential adoptive parents, many agencies and social workers insisted on same gender matches. Old habits (and biases) die hard, and many singles still find this to be true. Generally there is usually no hard and fast rule on this, just "unwritten policy" that varies significantly from agency to agency. Expect to be questioned, however, if you are not open, from the very start, to being matched with a child of either sex. Some foreign countries will not allow men to girls, yet single women are allowed to adopt and raise sons.

I AM A SINGLE FEMALE THAT HAS ADOPTED THREE WONDERFUL BOYS IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL THING. BUT DON'T EXPECT MEN TO HELP WITH ROLE MODELS I HAVE FOUND THAT THEY ARE HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS BUT RARELY HAVE THE TIME. BUT IF ADOPTION IS IN YOUR HEART I'M SURE YOU HAVE A CHILD WAITING FOR YOU.
