Heart I'm with you both and seeking information too

Hi,
I am also a single hoping to adopt in the U.S. Although I had hoped to meet my husband by now, God has a different plan for my life apparently and I trust His heart and love for me. However, I have prayed for many years and want to start my family. I have been a teacher my whole life, in both general and special education and can't wait to have children of my own to teach and to love. I am just starting the process and already have plenty of questions and confusions! :cutelaugh:

I have attended two orientation sessions, one with an agency placing domestic newborns and one with an agency that places foster kids and children with special needs. I long for a baby but don't know if that's possibly - it seems pretty unlikely since I'm single. I have a heart for kids with special needs and skills as a special educator, but I also know the resources necessary to support children with disabilities and especially since I eventually want more than one child.

I'm struggling with these decisions. I feel God's leading but it's hard to know which is the right direction to head. :dontknow: I like the idea of a facilitator but haven't found one in my state yet. And there are quite a few other agencies I haven't even been to yet! I really like the Christian focus of Bethany, but unfortunately I'm in Arizona and there are no locations here. I don't know anyone who has adopted recently so I'm looking forward to this forum! Thanks! Jeni :bye:

I'm new to this forum but have been checking it out more recently. Jeni, I had to join and post a response to your message. I am a single female in Indiana who had the same struggles that you are having. I knew that I wanted a child but there was no husband. I started researching single parent adoption and it CAN be done. There are several books out there that give you lots of advice and guidance (One good one is Adopting on Your Own by Lee Varon). I decided to go the agency route and do a domestic adoption. I signed with an agency in June and have been home study approved since August. They tell me the average wait is 12 to 24 months. And oddly enough, I got a call from a potential birth mom 4 days after I was approved and active in their book! Sadly, that match didn't work out but it gave me such a boost to know that my being single won't be a problem! Since beginning the process, I have continued to be amazed by the amount of support and encouragement I receive any time I tell them I am pursuing a domestic infant adoption. I hope that I can return that favor to others starting on this journey too!!

It works........

I was nervous too and didn't think i would be picked but I was within two weeks of paperwork completion. Even the agency was shocked. My baby is a healthy gal and is doing wonderful. I will PM you the name of the agency.

Goodluck ladies and keep the faith

Same here

I have been thinking about adoption for about a year, moving slowly to do reseach and make the best choice for my already family. I am a widow of four years and I have a beautiful 3 yr old daughter. I have thought long and hard about the right way to add to our family now that we are ready. My husband and I made provisions to have future children (frozen sperm) but my heart tells me to be there for a baby who needs a home now. I know it won't be easy to do domestic adoption as a single mother but I really am blessed to have the support system that I do have. My family is 7 minutes away and my dad is a retired school teacher who watches my daughter while I am at work. My sisters and my in laws are always there for me and I have never felt like an actual single parent. Hence the Already Greatful name. If anyone has any tips on where to start - the right agency, I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards
Meggan

How much can I expect to spend on an adoption?
