I'm in my 20's but only for 7 more days. My birthday is next monday and I'll be 30. I go to Foster Care orientation on February 13. I've always wanted to be a foster mother and adopt. I think I'll do both although fostering is what I want more right now and if any of my foster children become available for adoption then I'll take the step.

I'm single, no prospects in sight but I have a good job and a house and a lot of love and attention to give a child.

Licensed and First Placement Turn Down

Well as of last night I am officially licensed....Got the news today around 1 something..and literally about 30-45 min later I called to take a little boy and I turned the placement down....I felt so bad...

There was nothing wrong with him, but I am trying to adopt a little girl and they won't let them share rooms and I only have one other room and he is too old to sleep in my room according to Florida foster care laws...

They had a few other kids too, but they were all boys

I need another room!!!!

I am 22 and I am starting the adoption process very soon. I am going through the DCS initially. There is a ten week training period and then the home study. I am not sure if I will be able to find the child I hope to adopt through the foster/adopt program, but it's a good start for someone who isn't rich/hasn't saved $15K. One of my co-workers used to be a social worker and she gave me some VALUABLE information about adopting an infant/toddler through the public sector. It is free, so I am hoping for a miracle and saving to go to a non-profit program if the DCS doesn't work in in the next year or two.

I am 29 and single. I have been thinking about adoption since I was 17 or 18. I tried at 24 - relative adoption. My state says it is legal, if done privately.

That didn't work out, as the mother decided to keep the baby.

So, now for the last year I have been getting information. I am not going through an agency though. Still going the private route - trying to search for a b-mom on my own.

I have done a bit of research on how also. I have gone to ob offices and told them that I want to adopt and asked if they would give my name to a b-mom if they say they are considering adoption.

I have a friend who went to an abortion clinic and stood outside with a sign saying "If you let your baby live, I know someone who will adopt." I have a potential b-mom this way right now, but it looks like she may be giving the baby to her stepmom instead.

This has been a scary ride to say the least. But I am ready. It means the world to me to be a mom.

I am a single and 26. I'm still in the research phase, I don't know whether or not I will adopt through the foster system or privately. I do want to become a foster parent regardless, and don't plan on doing so until 2010 (hence the screen name). I have always wanted to adopt and cannot wait to get the process started in a few years.

I'm another young, single adoptive parent. I just turned 30 last month, so I'm not quite in my twenties anymore. I adopted my first child last November (a three-year old from Texas who has cerebral palsy). I just got matched with my second child last Saturday. It's a little girl who's four, almost five, lives in Oregon and has autism. I definitely dealt with lots of questions about why I was adopting before marriage, but I've had a heart for adoption since I was very young. It has definitely been the right decision for me.

I have wanted to adopt since I was 8 y/o and this year I will realize that dream..hang in there....believe me it seems like a long time, but those 3 years will fly by.....

I can't believe my boys have been living with me for almost 4 months...it seems like they just came last week.....and it seems like just a few months ago I went to Haiti visiting orphans, but that was 3 years ago and it seems like I just graduated from college last year , but that was 4 years ago.....Time REALLY flys!

Just keep yourself occupied and prepare...START SAVING NOW....you will spend far more money than you ever planned for..I know I do and I still want more kids! lol

Question Same Time Frame

Hi Monica,

I'm on a 3 year plan as well. A lot of my family and friends think I should wait longer, I think they are nuts..lol. What do your family and friends say about you starting the process at 22?

Smile Hi Adopt 2010!!:)

Hi,

Wow we are both starting the process in 2010. So much to get done, and 3yrs. is the perfect time frame! Well as you probably read I have wanted to adopt for many years. I recently informed my mom that I have officially decided to go ahead with my dream..adopting! I asked her if the time frame sounded good, she shaid yes, but she thought in 3ys id be starting a bio family...i always have wanted to adopt...marriage, never my thing, but i very much want to be a mom. She accepts my decision and said she would love to have a grandchild...he..(always seen myself with a boy) will be her first grandbaby. She also has no problem with transracial adoption..so she is supportive, I havent told everyone yet. but I know they will accept my decision..because..what choice do they have? haahaa. As for being 22 in 3 yrs, and beginning the journey, my mom thinks thats a good time frame. She says its my choice I hope your family comes to accept your choice, as you know what you want to do. Hopefully our adoption tickers move right along..haaha. good luck to you with your plans to adopt. Seems like a long time..but it actually moves quickly..How long have you wanted to adopt? Are you using a domestic agency, or adopting through foster care? I plan on using a domestic agency, for a newborn..they sure are pricey!

Monica

I've always wanted to be a mom since I was 5 years old. I wanted to adopt since age 11; after I found out2 of my best friends were in foster care, and a close family friend was adopted.

I hope my family does come around; they really want me to have a husband first, then children. But I’ve always wanted to be a mom and if i meet someone before, during, or after the adoption process then great; but I’m not focusing on finding Mr. Right.

I plan on going through the foster care system for my first child(ren), and then through a domestic adoption agency for the next. I plan on fostering for a while though, because I've always wanted to foster.

It's great that you have such an amazing support system. I think my parents will come around when they meet their grandchild, then I don't think it will matter if I’m married or not.

And 2010 is a great year...and hopefully our time will go by quickly Although not too quickly; these 3 years will give me a chance to get everything in order for my child(ren)!!!

Hi Adopt2010!

your Elmo avatar is soo cute! Just thought I'd mention that. I totally agree with the your view on "Mr Right" if it happens okay, but if not it won't be the end of the world. Many of us on this site have wanted to adopt since 8,9,10 and 11 yrs old! I can tell u are reallly exited like I am about becoming and adoptive parent And hopefully the time does not pass tooo fast, we need all the time we can get!

Have a nice day
