single mom-to-be in Texas......

Hey, I was just wanting to connect with other single parents to have some people to chat with that have gone or are going to be going through the same process as a single.....

Anybody have any words of advice or just want to share something with me that I need to know as I go through this journey to an awesome blessing?

Hi,

I'm a single adoptive mom of a 19 month old little boy. It is wonderful and also challenging. The only advice I would give you is, try and enjoy the little time you have left being single. Take long hot baths, go out anything YOU want to do. When the baby comes you will be on his/her time PERIOD. Even if the baby is at a babysitter you are constantly thinking about him/her or something you need to do for the baby. Your brain doesn't turn off.

Oh, one more thing, try not to loose yourself. I just started doing little things for myself like my nail and feet. My first year with my little one I didn't buy myself anything. I would go to the store to pick up a few things and would get everything for him and forget my deoderant or sanitary products and that was my main reason for going to the store.

You are going to be so happy. I wish you much joy and happiness. e-mail me if I can answer any questions or you just want to chat.

Talking Single Adoption!

Hi there! I am a single, adoptive, parent of a beautiful 3 year old. I have had her from birth and even though there have been some ups and downs I feel that we are meant to be together!! I worked with a wonderful agency that had no problems with me being single and adopting a child!! They were great! I am sad to say though that they had to drop the single adoptions program because they had to drop the other section of their agency because of fees!! It was just such a wonderful experience. I would love to help anyone out that needs help with single parent adoption. I truly love my job as a mom and wouldn't change a thing about my life with Kennedi. If anyone knows of some other agencies that work well with single parents please pm me. I am interested in african american adoptions.

Hi I am also a single parent hoping to adopt. I am 31, Christian, Single, and happy with my life the way it is except for one thing....another child. I have a 4 year old niece I am raising but I don't want to raise her as an only child. Just a litte intro.

I am also a single mom in Texas hoping to adopt a 2nd child. If you really feel called to adopt, then jump right on in. Talk to your agency, ensure they really support single parent adoptions. As long as they do, there is no reason why you should not adopt. Good luck...let me know if you have any questions or need suggestions!!

Hi, I'm a single mom from Minnesota. I am one of the singles who has struggled with adoption, but the closed-mindedness about singles is a bit stronger here in the upper Midwest.

I'm in special needs adoption (children from foster care) and have successfully adopted twice already. I got J at 2-1/2 from NJ - he's now 6. I got Q at 1-1/2 from OR - he's now 3-1/2. I'm in the process of finding a 3rd and/or a 4th child to join our little family! Both of my boys are AA, actually one is and one is biracial. So I am looking for more AA or biracial kids - preferably boys, but sometimes I think maybe I'd want a girl, too!

How your journey will go depends on a lot of things - whether you're infant domestic/international/or special needs; what races you're open to - if you're with infant, how much $$ you have!!!! Where you live is also a factor, but I know many people who got placements in or from Texas, so I don't think you'll have too many problems there.

Waiting is awful - it's exciting at first, but it wears off quickly! But once you have a child - it's a rollercoaster ride! I wouldn't change it for the world - not to say I wouldn't give up single parenting for handsome man that likes to cook, clean up afterward, change diapers, gives backrubs and loves to push little boys on swings!!! OH! And clean up puke, I REALLY hate that!

Seriously, though, welcome to the club! I hope you are successful early on so you have more time with your child! Are you looking for a girl? Boy? Sibs? Infant? Toddler? Preschooler?

Whichever it is, good luck and all the best to you!

Sandy

Tonya, good luck on this adventure. I have completed two adoptions, working on the third, and still foster also. Are you trying to adopt via CPS or a private agency?

Wink Hey y'all...still waiting....

Hey! I haven't been online for a while...well to this site anyway because of school and all the end-of-year stuff... I was so surprised to see more posts!

Yes, I am still waiting, but God's timing is so very perfect so the waiting isn't as hard as it could be without Him!!! My thinking is that I just started the process in August, so I'm just now getting to a point where I would have waiting a "pregnancy"...silly rationale, I guess, but it makes thinking easier for me! *laugh* I've been "looked at" several times by birthmothers and have been the "2nd choice" twice in the last month. Sometimes I worry that being single is a problem, but then I shake that silliness away and just relax back on the trust I have that God will work it out so that the one He has for me will come in HIS timing...not mine. (ps...I am working with a private Christian agency in Dallas...)

It's great to "meet" some of you! I hope to hear more about your stories!

Have a fantastic Friday night and weekend!
