Does anyone know the good countries to check out for international adoptions for singles--I'm 48. Thanks!

China will

China will do adoptions for singles, but they do require that only a small percentage of their adoptions be to singles. Most agencies have an application quota that they are allowed to submit. You may have a longer wait than married couples depending on if they've met their quota for the current year. You may want to check out different agencies and see if they've met their quota for this year (or even next year, if you're planning on waiting awhile before you proceed.)

Other than that, I know a single woman who had no problems adopting from China and is on her second adoption.

I am single. The agency that I'm using has China, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Ecuador and Guatemala.

China and Vietnam would have left on a waiting list.

Ecuador and Guatemala were open to me. I wanted a younger child in a shorter length wait, so I chose Bulgaria.

Rainbowkids.com has country listing with all of the countries open for International adoption with country programs listed. It is a quick way to review several countries.

Be prepared, each agency also may have different requirements than the country.

Many, many countries allow singles to adopt. As already stated, China allows singles, but agencies can only have 8% of their applicants from single parents. Vietnam, while currently closed, allowed singles. Russia & most other provinces that were formerly part of the USSR allow singles (I believe there is one that doesn't--possibly the Ukraine?), as does India, Guatamala, & Columbia. There are probably more but these are the biggies. The only country I can think of that doesn't allow single adoption is Korea. However, some countries only allow singles to adopt older children, not infants.

I believe that singles who are over 45 may adopt from several countries. The ones I am familiar with are Guatemala, China (although, a long wait list and children a bit older), Ethiopia, Kazakstan, Russia and Eastern Europe in general. Vietnam is also a possibility; however, it is closed currently. It is suppose to open soon, but who knows.

Question Single and wanting to adopt from Colombia

Hello Everyone,
My name is Monica- I am 31 years old and divorced. I am very interested in adopting an infant from Colombia, my birth country. All the information I've found on the web so far indicates that I must be married in order to be able to adopt in Colombia. Has anyone heard of a single person being able to adopt a child in Colombia? Any information or advice you can give me on this subject would be greatly appreciated. You can email me at Missmonicaten@aol.com.
Thanks....Monica

Hi there!
I just started researching adoption options for single wannabe parents. I just wanted to let you know of a cool website that I found (maybe you've already seen it?)...it's called "Adoptive Families.com". I even printed out one of their articles and made it "required family reading" for my family & friends. Good luck!
