Starting to understand the process...

... and the big word seems to be WAIT.

We started the process in July, when we saw a sibling group on a photolisting and fell in love. We knew they may be gone by the time we could adopt, but also knew that we really felt a leading to adopt a sibling group.

In October we were done with the HS interview and all the classes etc., so our caseworker decided to call the worker for the 5 kids, only to find out they were matched and had been for awhile. We knew it could happen, and we were happy for them, but of course sad for us. However, we still were eager to adopt.

On November 25, our HS was official, we could inquire on listings etc. I am sharing this because, well I feel a bit alone in such a big system. I am starting to better understand how it works, but it seems like a very long wait with little feedback. I think the big issue is we live in a state with very few children free for adoption ever, and those that are usually are older teenage boys. I would consider that, if I didnt already have children in the house, but we have been blessed with 2 bio sons and an older teenage adoption is not a good choice for us at this time.

Anyway, Thanks for listening to me ramble. We are excited about adoption. I am curious for those of you who have been in similar situations, how long was it from the time you got the HS finalized, to the time you were matched with a sibling group (out of state). We are looking for a group of 2 - 5 children under age 12, so I am hoping that isnt so specific that it adds to the difficulty. If you did adopt a sibling group, where did you first see them to inquire about them? I have used the photolist on this site and find it friendly and efficient, and especially like the "recently added" feature. Have a great day.

We adopted a sibling pair, but it was through agency adoption, not through the state. Our kids were 3 months and 20 months at the time they came home.

I'm sorry that your wait has been hard.

It IS SO hard. I think the wait is the hardest thing. especially through foster care. Because "your" kids are out there and you worry about them. We are adopting in state. Our worker was not huge on placing out of state, even though we had thoguht about it. Our state is big enough and has plenty of kids. But, from the time we were occicially licensed until placement was 6 months. Our worker thought it would be alot less than that though. We have a sib set of 4, all under 8.

I naively believed that because we were open to siblings up to age 5 that we would be seeing possible matches all the time... nothing so far. now mind you we have been on the REady parent list for all of 2 weeks but still.... arent there all theese kids out there? And my SW was soooo busy all the time i figured she had lots of kids to match to us.

yes the big word is Wait. But atleast we are on the list to be considered so the wait is a purposeful one.

Wow, I can really relate to this right now. DH and I are almost 100% sure we want a sibling group so we've been looking at photo listings and are interested in a sibling group of three. But our home study won't be done until late May and we're pretty sure they'll be adopted by then. The waiting is emotionally draining and honestly, it's driving me crazy. I know, this is just the beginning. I'm not looking forward to all the waiting we're going to be doing down the road.

I felt the same way as you. Two years later, I forget we are still hoping to adopt sometimes.

We started in January 2007. The next class wasn't until April. Didn't get our finished homestudy until Oct. Got our foster care license after that. Now we have been "really" waiting for over a year.

It seems that the sib groups we are interested in - latino, 3 under 9, no major special needs - are actually in demand. Who knew? Most groups only stay on the photolisting for a few days to weeks.

I've made inquiries on 10 - 15 groups. Heard back on about 5. Most weren't something we could handle. One group I think we almost matched with. We were in the final selection. They chose no one! Having no family was better than us! I know that isn't exactly how it was but that was how it felt.

I sent in an inquiry last week. I wonder will they be the ones? My friend found out she was pregnant that day. She wanted to have babies together. Any chance I found my kids the same day. I want to agonize the details of adding THIS group to our familly but I've found it's not worth the energy.

I'm starting to think if we haven't brought kids home by summer. I will throw in the towel. That just seems like a crime since there are "so many kids out there that need homes."

Sorry for this depressing post. I guess I needed to vent. I think I'll go enjoy the nice weather with the kids I DO have.

Nope. Not my kids. I got an e-mail today. This is what confuses me. I think they were newly posted Feb. 26th. How can they be matched already? It took 3 months before we found out we were not selected for the other sibling group. That was one month to hear anything back and then 2 months going back and forth with info plus lots of waiting. This whole processes is just so frustrating.
