How Much Does it Matter?

We've submitted our home study on a sibling group of 7 that may grow to 9 within the year. The CW wrote in their profile that a family with no kids or grown kids would be preferable only because of the large size of the group, not for other reasons.

We've got 3 bio kids already ages almost 2, 6 1/2, and almost 8. The 7 kids in the sib group we're interested in are ages almost 2 to 8 with no twins. We've got enough space and bedrooms and can afford them. Do you think the CW will really consider us or will rule us out automatically because of our current bios?

It seems to me that even if they got placed in a home with no other kids that happened to be, say, a four bedroom house, the kids would still end up sleeping three to a room. We've got a five bedroom house, every bedroom over 100 sq ft. So that wouldn't be any different for them. It would really boil down to the issue of our current bio kids, in my opinion.

I don't really know

In my opinion it can't hurt to try. We were told that we would not be allowed to adopt out of birth order. Long, complicated story short - we are in the process of adopting a sibling pair that are 13 and almost 15. Our biokids are 9 and almost 12. Not that I'm recommending this, but just that they may look at you as experienced parents who would be able to handle this group and ignore their previous statements.

Mary
mom to bioson T(9) and biodd K(almost 12)
finalized on H(13) on 3/08.
Hope to finalize on her brother D(almost 15) this summer.

I'd be surprised if the CW is really in a position to be picky with a sibling group of that size. It's certainly understandable that they'd prefer a family with no other kids at home. But realistically, very few families are both willing and able to take on that many kids at once. I should think the CW would be happy to have you and breathe a sigh of relief to be able to place all the children together. Good luck!!

Well, I guess it's a moot question since they informed us this past week that the kids are no longer available. Strangely, though, they didn't say that they were placed or even had anyone else they were considering. Another sib group we'd inquired about had only 4 sibs, but the CW called to say that they'd decided to split the kids and we were welcome to ask to be considered for either the youngest or the two middle (twins) kids because the oldest was being placed already. I have no idea how these CW's make these decisions, but I hope they are giving it serious thought.
