My worries

Okay, I saw the message from Roon but thought I'd start my own thread because I get all confused when too many conversations are going at once in a thread (yeah, I have limited brain power right now, until school is out at least!).

So, here are my worries: After reading this forum, I feel like a weenie for being freaked out about two when so many of you guys have adopted so many more. But then again, I'll have two under two, while most of the sibling groups I see on here were older. With our first referral at the ages of 2 and 3 (almost 4), there weren't as many issues, especially the financial ones. We've been looking into daycare and WOW the costs are high for two little ones. We could've afforded the 2 and 4 year old, but this sucks! If it wasn't for the huge loan we had to take out for adoption I could afford to not work.

Now, here comes the big worry. We've gotten some word this week that the older girl has some problems, which may mean that I can't work anyway. I think that I have a lot of the same worries that any new parent would, but having two throws a kink in it. Not that it's a bad kink, just that I'll be worried until they get here (and probably forever after that too, but just about different things).

Sydney! First off, please don't feel like a weenie! I love that a child will be in a home that is loved, be it one or 24kids! I started with one, and I was a world class chicken.

The loan you got, is going to have to be paid off, and if your daughter to be has medical problems, that make you stay at home, there are other possiblities for you.

An in home childcare might be a good way to keep up with the payments/bills. I did childcare for years, and it is a good way to be home with your kids and bring income in. I am not sure, but hoping by your name you are a nurse. I am sure you have already thought of the possibility of shift/part-time work, when your hubby is at work...so there is a parent in home for you.

I have learned, when you have A, B, or C possibility, usually none of them is what you should do! lol, look for D...none of the above

I will be gone rest of the week..not ignoring ya' ~off to a funeral!

Sydney, I totally hear you! We were nervous about two under two and it wasn't easy! But, it was so much fun! When the twin's baby sister came to us as a foster child we had three under two (for a few months, until the twins turned two). Yeah, I don't remember much of the first month, but once we got adjusted to the three together, we loved it. Still do!

One thought for day care... We checked out so many places and the cost of daycare for all three was going to be nasty! We found that a nanny was way less expensive and more flexible with hours, as I work strange hours and needed to attend the kids' therapies. She's been with us for almost 9 months and we love her!!! Just a thought...

Good luck!

Oh Bellemom! Great thoughts to the Nanny! Love alternative ideas for problems! Helps when you don't have to focus on ONE thing, and stress!

Your Nanny? Does she live with you? or have other families she works with also!

Our nanny doesn't live with us, but works 40 hours with us! We actually found her at the daycare the kids went to a year ago. It was nice because she had been background checked (of course we had to do it again with DSHS) and the kids had a relationship with her already. We pay her $10 an hour, which is more than the daycare paid her and less than we would pay for daycare here (for three kids).

Now she comes in the morning and I can work, take the kids to therapies, grocery shop alone!!! It's fabulous!!! She doesn't work with any other families, but has a baby herself and brings her with her sometimes when I have the twins at therapy. It's a nice set-up! And, we actually pay less than bringing all three to daycare, her hours are flexible (for her and us), and I don't have to rush out the door in the morning. It's all worked out well for us.

Colleges are a great place to find nannies, especially if you have odd hours. Community colleges usually have ECU programs and the students are sometimes looking for work that will help their resumes in the future and help with finances while getting their degrees. I know a few people that have gone this route and had wonderful experiences.
