Has anyone searched for birth family in Virginia or DC?
I have searched off and on over the years for my mother's birth mother, as she has requested my help. I've uncovered some non-identifying information and the hospital list verifying her birthday...though I was told that the more complete hospital files were later lost in a fire. It's difficult, because I don't think we have the correct name of the mother. (If I were unmarried and put a baby up for adoption pre WWII, I don't think I'd give my correct name, either.)
Has anyone had experience researching in Virginia? I am on the West Coast, and wonder what the procedures there are. Also, some of the papers list the adoption as taking place in Virginia, and others as in nearby Washington DC. Thanks
