I remeber like it was yesterday & not 30 some odd years ago. I was about 5 yrs old, I was outside playing when my amom called me in. She said Your dad & I want to let you know your adopted & we love you very much. I asked her if it was going to hurt? She said No. So, I said can I go back out & play now? They said sure you can. So I did. Later on as I grew up & fond out what it really ment I was just curious as anyone would be about my bmother. My amom gave me a poem that I still have today. It says : To My Adopted Child. You are not blood of my blood, Nor Flesh of my flesh, You did not grow under my heart but, in it & there you will stay for the rest of my Life. This is so true my amom who is my best friend & mom in my heart. I know I have a birthmom also but, she is just that..My birthmom. I want to thank her for the courage it took to make the choice to give me life & then to give me up. I have had a wonderful life & I owe that to them both because w/o them both this story would not have been able to have been told. My Mom will always be my Mom & the woman who gave me birth will always be my birthmother & I owe them both my love. |

That is such a sweet poem. My husband and I are prospective adoptive parents. I hope I have the same relationship with my child that you have with your mother. Thanks for the poem!

Thanks for posting! It sounds like your parents did it the right way and that you know that they love you no matter what. I am sure they treasure you above everything else!

Hi, I am a birthmom. I just want you to know that it really helps me to read letters like yours. I helps me to know that some adoptees have had some really special relationships with their adpoted parents. I just pray mine son did also. Thank you for sharing.

The kindness we give is often a reflection of the love we receive. Reading that post tells me you must be the light of your parents life and a joy to know.
My family has been extended in so many ways that bloodline is almost a non-issue anymore. We too have a family saying, "No matter how you join our family... marriage, adoption, or birth we're never going to let you out. You're stuck with us forever". Trish |

My amom gave me the same poem. I still long to find my bmom but I totally agree with you. My amom is my mom and my best friend and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my amom with all my heart. The main reason I would like to find my bmom is to get some questions answered but she will NEVER take my amoms place (no one can). I don't recall how old I was when my parents told me I was adopted but I have known since the day I can remember and I am grateful for them telling me from day one. I don't look or sometimes act like I am adopted because I have inherited my aparents traites. I look exactly like my adad and i act like both my parents. If you ever were to just look at us you would ask are you sure you are adopted. Sometimes I wonder!
