A Famous Birth Parent...

I am a 44 year old female adult adoptee...
Up until the age of 40 I use to dream about
who my birth parents were... Did I pass them
on the street? Could they have been to the
same places I had just been to?

I was reunited with my birth family when I turned
the age of 40. I had been attempting to find out
information about my adoption since I turned 18 years
old.

What I found out has been an incredible jouney. It has
been positive and mostly happy. Some of the information I discovered has changed my life.

I found out that my Birth Mother within a few short years of adopting me out became an International Super Model in the late 1960's. Her name was Cathee Dahmen. She quickly moved up in the Fashion Modeling arena and modeled all over the world. She was an Eileen Ford Model. After two failed marriages she was diagnoised with Emphysema and came to home to Minnesota to live out her last few remaining months not more than 30 miles from where I live now. She was just that close.

Her pennance was that she told herself that she thought that I had died. I think thats what helped her sleep at night. I have been told that when she drank she poured her heart out about me..

It's incredible to see her in her Magazine photo's. I am very proud of her success but I struggle with the fact that she never reached out for me.

It took my half sister about two days to find me on the Internet Search boards. It was just that easy. I wished that Cathee had tried a little harder. I feel left behind at times..

I have also met my birth fathers side of the family. Sadly he too died before I was found. He had only told one person that I existed (his older sister). Even his second wife knew nothing about me when I made that first phone call to her. THAT was a difficult conversation.

I am home now, and adjusting to all the new faces and names. There are so many! I am also learning the culture which I was denied being familiar with for 40 years. I am Native American and proud of it.
