Smile ISO: Info on Birth Mother, Born summer of 1925

Hello,

My info on my Birth Mother that I have never known.

Her name was Edna and she was born in a Mid-western state in the summer of 1925. She was of Irish & Cherokee Indian decent. Her parents died (one when she was 9 and one when she was 11) and she was raised by her grandmother (I think in OHIO). Evans was a family name and may have been her grandmother's last name. Edna had dark wavy hair and hazel eyes and had a very good posture - as I was told.

Edna only had an 7th or 8th grade education.

She was living in Miami, Florida from 1942 - 1947. She worked as a bar maid, waitness, elevator operator, housekeeper & babysitter.

I am her daughter and was born in Nov 1945 in Miami, FL. She was dating Noland M Ebanks at the time of my birth. (I have all of his info).

Are there any family members out there that know of her?

I sure would like to know about her. Oh, her best friends name was Glory Jean.

Searching for Info,
Sonseeker70

Have you gone to the Florida Searching Resources sub forum on the Florida Adoption Records forum on this site to check the resources and laws of searching in FL? If you were born in Miami...you may be able to get your non-identifying information from the Miami-Dade County Court (305)275-1155 You will have to ask who you would speak to about older post-adoption non-identify records and call whomever they tell you and find out how Miami-Dade handles these matters. When you get the non-identifying information you may have more clues to search with. Also, if you know someone with a subscription to Ancestry.com you may be able to find your birthmother (if you think her maiden name might have been Evans) in the 1930 census. If you found her in that census it would tell you the names of her parents since they still would have been alive when she was 4 or 5 years old. I would check Ohio first. I don't know if this helps but, it was all that I could think of right now.

Thank you for the information.
I have all of non-identifing information on my birthmother which I have posted. My AM told me info also. Florida records are SEALED - can't get info without a court order. I think is is crazy ( I'm 62 now and my mother would be 83 if still living). I think the laws here say this info is not public until after 100 years. I'll be dead & gone. I do not know what my mothers last name was. I did search the Evans 1930 census - I just don"t know, quite a few Edna's. I guess that was a popular name back then. I did wonder if her fathers name was Edward.

I'm new to this group and do not know where to search for everything. I could use some advise.

Thanks,
Sonseeker70

I know sealed records are a pain in the #%@& ! I did my search in Michigan and the records there are also sealed. I had to hire a Confidential Intermediary to conduct the search. Luckily she was VERY experienced at search (40 years of it) and also an adoptee so she could empathize. You might want to check out this site:
Tina's Florida Adoption Information Page
If you scroll to the bottom of the page they talk about how you can hire C.I's in Florida but that you have to "educate" the judge since it's not commonly used. It might be worth a try. There is an email address of someone that did a search in FL that way on the site also. Let us know if it's a possibility....I'm sure many other FL triad members could benifit by what you find out.

I found an Edna B. Evans, born June 1925, with a record in Ohio on ZabaSearch (free people search).

EDNA EVANS in ZabaSearch People Search Engine

Not sure if it's her, but you might check out that site at least for previous address history.
