Hi. Me, my bsis, and bbro were fostered in the 70's. Since they were 5 and 6, would it be possible of a name change? Can an adoptive family change their names at that age? And are they allowed to know their original names? Would they know that they were fostered? Would they remember me? Any information would be very helpful...Thanks

It has been my experience that generally the first name stays the same but that the last name gets changed to the adoptive parents last name.
I recently talked to an adoptee who was relinquished at three and she remembered the names of her birth siblings, aunts, uncles and birthmother. It's amazing sometimes what a small child "stores" in their memory bank!
