Searching for family

These are some searching suggestions that you might try:

...obtain "non-identifying" information about your birth parents from the adoption agency that handled your adoption. If you do not know the agency contact this office:

State of Louisiana
Dept of Post Adoptions
PoB 3318
Baton Rogue, LA 70801

...request a "Waiver for Consent to Contact" form from the adoption agency and have it placed in your adoption file
...contact the Louisiana Adoption Advisory Board at http://laab.org
...there is also a Louisiana Registry at 225-342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456
...if possible, talk to your adoptive parents about any legal paperwork that they might have about your adoption proceedings (your birth name and/or birth mother's name might be on these papers if your adoption was a "private" adoption instead of an agency adoption).
...also ask your adoptive parents if they saved any notes or have any memory of information given to them at the time of your adoption
...it is possible to petition the Superior Court in the county where your adoption was finalized to open your sealed adoption file.
...post your information with as many on-line registries as possible and don't change your email address until your search is resolved.
...and most important...don't ever give up. Even the most difficult searches can probably be resolved if you persist in your search.

Warm Regards,
Colleen Buckner, Search Expert for adopting.org
