LOUISIANA BMOM SEARCHING

I am a birthmom searching for information with little to go on. I know my child's birthdate within a few days, but can't remember the names of the home or the hospital. I can remember all of the small details, like what the outside of these places looked like, what the rooms looked like, general street names...but do not know where to start. In Louisiana, does anyone know if they will search for birth certificates by mother's name or do they require the exact date? I have tried the Times-Picayune since it was in New Orleans, but their articles state exact dates are not given in 1970. I thought about contacting several hospitals in the area for medical records but again, without an exact date of admission I am not sure how far I might get. If someone could just point me in the right direction...I feel lost as to where to start..I could not get a live person phone number for the Louisiana Vital Records just to ask..everything is recorded. Does anyone have any suggestions...they would be appreciated.

Give the Department your full maiden name, the name of the birthfather if you gave them that information, the approximate date of birth, the gender of the child, the name of the child, the city and parish of birth. Have the form notarized before signing and keep a copy for your files.

Link to Louisiana Adoption Advisory Board

Thank you for the information!
However, the above link gives an error message, and my search engine brings up nothing to link to it directly. I will give them a try, but all I have is the approximate date of birth and my maiden name to go on. No gender, name, etc. At the time, little or no information was supposed to help you forget..or so they said. Now I am racked with guilt for not remembering more, or not obtaining more information.

Thumbs up Louisiana Registry

Be sure to leave behind some contact information if you post in a forum. e-Mail addresses come and go! The best thing to do is to register with the state of LA or the ISSR and state in your post that you are registered there. That way you can be found!!!

OFFICIAL LA REGISTRY
What is the Louisiana Adoption Registry?

The Louisiana Adoption Registry is a registry established by the Department of Social Services to facilitate voluntary contact between adult adoptees, their birth parents and/or siblings.

Who may register?

You may register if you are over 18 and your adoption, your child’s or your sibling’s adoption was legally finalized in the State of Louisiana.

How do I get on the registry?

Contact the registry at (225) 342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456 and request a Voluntary Registry packet which will provide all the information necessary for registration. The process includes completion of an affidavit and a $25.00 fee. There is also a counseling requirement that must be met prior to voluntary release of any identifying information, but this is not required in order to register.

Where do I write?

Should you prefer to write us, send your letter to:

The Louisiana Voluntary
Adoption Registry
Post Office Box 3318
Baton Rouge, LA 70821

And indicate whether you are an adoptee, birth parent or sibling and include your name, mailing address, and phone number. We will send you a registry packet or call you if we have questions.

If you have further questions, you may call the Registry at (225)-342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456.

Can you tell me your son's date of birth? I am helping my brother find his Birthmother. He was born in January 1973 in new Orleans. The adoption was handled through Volunteers of America.
Thanks,
Kara

Hi - i was born through the Volunteers of America in Shreveport - so if you used this agency in La. you can always call them for information.

What year was your child born.
