Hello...
I'm searching for my husband's birth parents. He was born in Chicago, IL, on April 29, 1958. He was removed from his home due to neglect by Catholic Charities when he was around the age of 3, so I guess it was in 1961, and placed in an orphanage. He was born named Howard David Locke. At the age of 4, he was placed in a foster home in Park Ridge, IL, and was finally adopted at the age of 12 by the same people. It would mean alot to be able to find them. I myself just found out in November that I was adopted too, talk about weirdness, but I have been able to contact my birth mom & siblings! Now, I want to do the same for my husband. ![]() |

Has he signed up on the registry that the State has? it's free to register if he fills out a medical history sheet to put in his file. He can also request non ID info if they have any.

RE:Searching for my husband's birth parents, Chicago, IL
Joanne, If you still live in the Chicago area you may contact the local library system looking for Old 'Polks City Directories' and phone books. Since you have a last name, you may be able to narrow down your search, possibly identify your husband's B Parents. Also I am curious about Catholic Charities? I don't think they would have had that power to take him from the home themselves. You may want to check old court records in person for again anyone by that last name, possibly even the records for when he was taken assuming the B parents were charged with something. If your husband has anything proving his B name, he might try to get hospital records. Since he wasn't adopted at birth, he should have records floating around somewhere, identifying the B parents. Now the Hospitals aren't required to keep them that long, you may have to try several hospitals but worth a try

Illinois DCFS didn't come into existence until 1964. if he was in an orphanage, he may have been a ward of the state and entered into the DCFS system.
Check the Midwest Adoption Center. They are currently working with me to see if I was handled by IDCFS. If so, they will do my search for free. It will help them if you know the county and date that the adoption was finalized. Best wishes. |

If he was born in Chicago, it should be Cook county.
