how do I find out of someone is deceased?

Hi All,

Anyone have any ideas on how I go about finding out if someone is deceased?

I have looked at the social security death index but not everyone is named in it.

I've also searched obit websites.

I'd appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

Snuffie

Have you tried to contact Vital Records to see if there is a death certificate issued for the person? do you have more in depth information like where they lived?

I know in my state family can request copies of the death certificate. When I found that a relative died and their family didn't tell the rest of my family I contacted vital records and they gave me a day they passed away.

You can also try checking probate courts to see if a will has been executed/filed in their name.

If you know anyone that has Ancestry.com, you might be able to look on the SSDI site, sometimes you can find a deceased person.

Do you know where they were living? you can contact the court and see if a will was filed and look for probate records.
