Question How Does One Become a Search Agent???

Well, it seems I have the "knack" to find biological relatives.

IF only my birth mom would take me in, like all the others have accepted their reunions.

Anyhow, not only after 7 yrs. of no contact with my birth mom, did I find my grandfather, her, and her sister, my aunt, I have found:

My husband's 1/2 brother
My mother in law's brother after 30 yrs.
A church member's daughter's biological father.

The last one, I did in 3 hours today. There has been no contact since '91, and I found his new wife, TODAY!

My husband says that maybe this is my calling and that I should maybe look into doing this from home, with a fee, like my search agent did for me. He charged me only $100.00 back in '98 to find my birth mom.

Does one have to be licensed to legally get paid for doing search and reunions?

Just wondering.

Sorry, but I have no answer for you. Just responding to give you a cyber high-five for your efforts and a big hug for your b-mom situation.

Some states consider this to be a private investigator. You may want to call your state's licensing board to find out if you need a license. They will tell you what is required and even send you a package if you request it on what to do if a license is required. My other suggestion, make sure you tell them you want to become a CI. Don't mention Private Investigation unless they do.

I am the same way. I can find info for others just fine, can't find my husband's birth family. I even found my dead beat ex husband when the state couldn't. But for my state, this falls under Private Investigating and there are SO many rules and regulations, that it is REALLY hard to get the license. Some states just require you to pay a fee and take a test.
