Many of us set our minds to that thought because that's what we were told. Originally I had always said I would never search - but would be here for my daughter if she ever found me... your birthmom needs time. Don't think for a minute she has ever forgoten you. The problem is the guilt. I should know - I have tons of it. If I were you I'd make sure your Birthmom knew exactly where you live and how to get ahold of you anytime! That gives her time to think about it - deal with the guilt and then come to know you. There could be issues with your birthfather too. I told my birthdaughter after we met that I would help her find her birthfather if she wanted - but I'd have to do therapy first! :-) She has since found him and I am fine. Just hang in there. Give your mom a chance to deal with what she did. Let her know that you will not show up on her doorstep - out of respect - and that she may feel free to contact you anytime! I hope this helps you! Good luck! Meliss Birthmom to Erica 12/26/81 face to face for the second time 8/28/00

Then go to the Clerk of Courts Office and check the court records of adoptions. If you have an idea when the baby was adopted you will see the birthparents's name on the decree. Sometimes the baby's birthname is on the court papers. Sometimes the adoption papers are still there in the county seat. What state were you in when you gave up your child for adoption? What was his/her birthdate? Good luck! Martha Culton culton@cconnect.net
