Unhappy question re: canadian adoptions

If a baby was born in Canada and immediately given up for adoption after birth and flown to adoptive family in the states, would the adopted child know that it was Canadian? (That is if the parents didnt say anything or know-especially if it was a private adoption) Hence the child would have double citizenship?

Maybe a dumb question; just curious...
