Indiana

If you are not actively searching for the adoptee but are hoping that they will search for you be sure and file a "Waiver for Consent to Contact" form with the adoption agency that handled the adoption. Be sure and keep your address and phone information updated with the agency whenever there is a change.
The State of Indiana also maintains a "Mutual Consent Registry" so if you haven't done so yet you might want to enter the adoption information on the registry.

Oklahoma Adoption

I was born at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma on March 9, 1968. My adoption was done through an attorney but I don't know the name. My adoptive parents live in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and I think the attorney was in that same town. Any help you can give me in my search would be greatly appreciated. I'm new at this and I'm not sure where to look. Thanks for your help. Lori

Oklahoma

Your first step in starting your search is to request information about your birth parents from your adoption file. Contact the adoption agency that handled your adoption and ask for "non-identifying information" on your birth parents. If you do not know the name of the agency contact this office:

State of Oklahoma
Dept of Post Adoptions
POB 25352
Oklahoma City, OK 73125

Oklahoma also has a "Mutual Consent Registry" where you can post your adoption information for searching relatives. Contact the office above to register.

Warmest Regards,
Colleen Buckner

Louisiana

Hi Lila,
Be sure and contact Catholic Charities and request "non-identifying" information about your birth parents. It is very helpful information in locating your birth family. Also sign up with this Mutual Consent Registry in Louisiana:

Phone: 225-342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456

Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to help us all out. I am searching for my husbands birth family. We don't know how to go about it. Here is the information that we have.
D.O.B. 5/7/1968
Male
Deaconess Hospital
Great Falls Montana
adoption through a private attorney involved with the LDS church.
We have a few other things, but nothing too substantial. Any advice would be greatly appreceiated, especially since I have heard that it is hard to find out any info from the state of Montana.

Sincerely,
Zenya Peterson

Arrow New York Searching Resources

WELCOME TO THE SEARCH AND REUNION MESSAGE BOARD!

If you know what adoption agency handled the adoption contact them for information from the adoption file that will help you with your search. If you do not know the name of the agency contact this office:

“Non-identifying information” is information from the adoption file about the birth parents. It generally includes ages, marital status, states of birth, education, religion, occupations and a physical description of the birth parents. It should also include the reason for relinquishment and may include information about aunts, uncles and grandparents. It is called “non-identifying information” because it does not include any identifying information such as names, addresses or social security numbers. If you are an adoptee and already have your non-identifying information but it is information given to your adoptive parents at the time of your adoption you should re-apply for the non-identifying information. Agencies are giving out much more comprehensive information now that they did in the past.

The “Mutual Consent Registry” is a registry where adoptees and birth parents can register the adoption information. If both parties register normally the agency responsible for the registry will notify both parties that consent has been given to contact each other. Adoptees must have been born AND adopted in New York to use this registry.

Need help

Hi....
I was just going thru the list of people you have helped. I was wondering if you could help me. I was born in Dallas on april 19 1972 and was placed for adoption thru hope cottage . I was given up for adoption at birth but was only adopted in 1976 . My parents are Indian we have moved back to India and I now am married and live here. I contacted Hope cottage and completed all the formalities plus paid a fee of $350 for a search. They told me that they had located my birth mother but got no replies from the letters they sent her.I don't know what to do now they have closed the case and I am still left hanging. Isn't there a way to find her name and then maybe I can take it from there. just wondering what to do. Thanks for your time
regards
gina

Found Birthmother(DOD 1/97) now want to find birthfather

...the adoption agency that handled the adoption

Hi Colleen,
I found my birthmother in 1990 with the help of an organization called CUB. The end result was that she did not want to have anything to do with me and was very angry that I had searched for her. I believe that she had never told anyone about me nor had she ever admitted to herself that I even existed. She passed away in 1997 and my adoptive mother and I attended the funeral. What I want to do now is find my father but have nothing to go on. I have already received my unidentifying information from Catholic Charities back in the early 80's and I also have a copy of my birth decree filed thru the county. This document indicates my name to be 'Baby Girl Woodman' but the unfortunate thing is that my mother had been married and widowed before I was born so am not sure if this was her 1st married name or maybe my fathers last name. I know her maiden name and I know that she was married at least twice after I was born but I only know the name associated to the last marriage. I know I could request a copy of my original birth certificate from the state of MN but that requires both parents to concent and obviously she cannot. I really don't know where to begin as I have no names other than Woodman (on decree) and her maiden name that I believe may tie me back to my birthfather. Any information or suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated ? My birthfather will be 73 this year and I hope it's not too late.

Thanks much,
Pam

Hi, My name is Missy Akers and I'm looking for my son that was born in Little Rock, AR on Jan. 17, 1987. I've been told by my agency, Bethany Christian Services, that they have made contact with his adoptive parents, but I've not heard anything from them myself. What would be my best way to try to at least find out what city/town he is in? I know that he is in the state of Arkansas.
Thanks,
missy
