I am trying to locate my father's birth family, more specifically his half siblings, as I think his birth mother would probably have passed on since she was born in 1914. My father was born May 28, 1949 in Hamilton, Ontario at the Henderson Hospital. My question is....my father left the hospital at 2 weeks of age, he was placed into foster care with the people that eventually adopted him 2 1/2 years later. Since they were only foster parents in the beginning, would they have the right to name him? What are the chances that after 2 1/2 years of calling him a name, they would change it? I'm assuming that the name I know him by, may have been the name that his birth mother gave him, and that he took the adoptive parents surname once the adoption was finalized. Does this sound correct? I'm currently trying to get a copy of his Adoption Order, and then I would know for sure. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it, but he has passed away so maybe there is a small chance.
