female born in Albany, NY, 6/3/66 iso birth mother
I believe my birth mother's name is something like Linda Lee Thompson. And my given name was something like Tracey Ann Thompson.
I was brushing my teeth, only vaguely listening to my mom natter on in the next room, when she said, "Oh, here's the paper with your birth mother's contact information on it..." and read it off to me. Being nearly 40 years out of date, the address and phone number were no good, and I didn't expect to be able to find her. But it seemed that having been given the information, I was honor bound to make an effort. When I saw this site, I thought, "That could be the answer!" So Linda, if you're out there, thank you for your sacrifice, placing my welfare above your personal desires, both in dropping out of school to have a baby rather than an abortion, then in giving me up for adoption so that I would have all the things you didn't feel you could give me. You couldn't have chosen a better family for me: two devoted parents whose children were (and still are) the center of their world, and a wonderful older brother who has always looked after me and whom I idolized as a child. Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board! Here is some information for searching in Ontario, Canada. I hope you find the information helpful in your search: General Searching Information for Adoptees born in Canada and taken to the USA. If anyone was born in Canada and adopted by American adoptive parents and taken to the United States, contact the US Dept. of Immigration and obtain a copy of your Entry Visa. This form should show your full birthname. This is required for all persons taking up permanent residence in the U.S. Write your MPP: The Honourable John Baird Minister of Community and Social Services 6th Floor, Hepburn Block 80 Grovesnor St. Toronto, Ontario M7A 1E9 tel: 416-325-5225 fax: 416-325-5221 Registry Adoptions and Operational Services Ministry of Community and Social Services Adoption Information Unit 2 Bloor St. West, 24th Floor Toronto, Ontario Canada, M4W 3H8 Adoption Disclosure Register Clerk: (416) 327-4730 International Adoptions: (416) 327-4739 Relative Adoptions: (416) 327-4740 Private Adoptions: (416) 327-4741 Non-Identifying Information If the adoption was arranged by an office of the Ontario Children's Aid Society then the Society would have the record and would respond to the request. The length of time for a response can vary from six months to two years. If the adoption was handled privately then the information is prepared by the ministry. For adoptions prior to June 1979, however, there is virtually no non-identifying information available. Unless the applicant knows which agency is involved and can make a direct inquiry, there can be a longer wait while the ministry determines and informs the applicant where to request information. For most adoptions prior to the mid 1960s the adoption order will contain the adopted person's given name(s) and surname at birth. For many orders made after the mid 1960's the adopted person's surname at birth is not shown, just the first initial of the surname followed by a birth registration number. The order shows the court in which the order was granted, the date it was granted and the name of the judge. It also shows the names of the adoptive parents. Adoption orders DO NOT contain the names of the birth parents(s) or any information about them. Passive Registry Passive Register for Birth Relatives (began in 1979). Adoptees, birth parents, birth siblings and birth grandparents can register. An initial check of the computerized registry is made for a corresponding applicant. Parties are informed if a match is made. If no match appears immediately, the application is processed in turn according to date of receipt. It can take up to one year to fully process the application and enter the correct data. The applicant remains in the data base until a match is made or requests that his or her name be removed. Active Search Active searches can be done on behalf of Adult Adoptees. As of the fall of 2000, the average search takes from nine to twelve months. Counselling Mandatory prior to the disclosure of identifying information. Most counselling is provided by the Children's Aid Society, or, if parties are outside Ontario, by other counselling agencies. Counselling is usually available within one to two months if a match is made. Counselling is also available by telephone. There are mail-out counselling packages also available. http://www.adoptionforums.com http://www.adoptionchat.com http://www.adoptionlists.com http://www.adoption.com http://www.adopting.org http://www.adoptionregistry.com |

I think that would be a great idea. Most of the searches are more for birthfamily that want to find the child. It's hard when you are always asked to type in the birthdate of the child and get yourself. I don't know when my mother was born, what town she lived in, etc.........
I was born on August 19, 1959 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I believe my birthmother's last name might have been Conway and she had been a kind of nurse. Some of her sisters had been nurses too in the 1930's. She stayed at a home for unwed mothers until my birth, but was originally from South Dakota. Her family was a big farm family in South Dakota, but I don't know what part. Anyone that has information, I would be very happy to have some. I was adopted through Catholic Charities. Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board! Note: The State of Minnesota has a “Confidential Intermediary” search program that will locate and contact birth relatives. See Requesting Identifying Information and Requesting an Original Birth Certificate below: Requesting Identifying Information: Identifying information is provided on the original birth certificate, which is released according to the provisions below. Requesting an Original Birth Certificate: An adopted adult can request a copy of the original birth certificate. At this time the Commissioner of Human Services will attempt to locate the birth parents to obtain consent to release the original birth certificate. If each birth parent is located and consents are given, the original birth certificate will be released. If there is no reply or contact with the birth parents, for adopted adults adopted before August 1, 1977, the adopted adult must petition the court for release of the original birth certificate. If the adoption was finalized on or after August 1, 1977, then the original birth certificate will be released to the adopted adult if the birth parents have not filed an access veto. For adoption related information and records in Minnesota: Minnesota Department of Human Services Children's Services 444 Lafayette Road North, Human Services Building St. Paul, MN 55155-3831 (651) 296-3740 Fax: (651) 297-1949 Requesting Non-Identifying Information: Adoptive parents and adopted adults may obtain non-identifying information. Sealed Adoption Records: Adoption records are confidential for 100 years at which time they become public record. This is great. I am an adoptee looking for any birth family. The non-identifying papers that show why I was adopted out include this bit of info. I was born Mary Jane Conway on 8/19/59 in St. Paul, Minnesota. My mother was from South Dakota and my father was in the military. She was from a large farming family, of polish descent, Catholic and was working as a nurse. My father was of French Canadian, had red wavy hair, and had 1 brother. His mother was dying of cancer at the time of my birth. I don't know where he was living. I would like to find anyone at all related to me as my adoptive parents are both deceased and I have 3 children that I would like to know about me. My mother was in a home for unwed mothers before my birth and I was adopted out through Catholic Charities. If anyone knows anything, please help, I am not having much luck. Thank you.
