It’s wise to be aware that several types of scams are on ALL adoption message boards on the internet:
Many people have been scammed by someone pretending to be the relinquished child or birthmother. Click on these links for more information: http://forums.adoption.com/t98290,15,1.html http://forums.adoption.com/showthrea...671#post521671 http://forums.adoption.com/showthrea...575#post571575 These scammers change their user names and email addresses frequently so be aware of any suspicious contact. Scammers will also contact you pretending to be free search angel when they are not. Or they will say "contact ....who did my search". Generally they are recommending themselves as a "fee for service" searcher. It is not wise to post your non-identifying information on a public message board. If you are contacted by someone who might be your birth relative you will want to ask questions that relate to the information in your non-identifying report. For ease in others reading these many messages it would help to post as a “new thread” and to include the following information in the subject line PLUS in the content of the message: gender of adopted person date of birth city of birth state of birth For example: male 01/01/1960 Chicago Illinois Other people reading the message board will be more likely to identify with this basic information and will be more likely to read your complete message and contact you if there is a match. Also post in the message boards for the year of birth and state of birth for the best exposure for your search information. What state do you live in? If I were you I would contact a state organization and ask for referals! With a lot of internet contacts its all about the money and you don't even get results! Be careful..best of luck in your search!

To inquire if DFPS was involved in your adoption, please call 512-438-5646.
NOTE: If your adoption was consummated through a private adoption placement agency, your records will be maintained either by that placement agency, or the Central Adoption Registry. If you are unsure of what agency placed you, please contact the Central Adoption Registry at 512-458-7388. The Central Adoption Registry is maintained by the Texas Department of Health. |

I have a question. A birth certificate states important info on births. Shouldn't all adoptees have a birth certificate that tells them county, state, hospital, and possibly weight and time.
I have been contacted by a few adoptees that hope we are a match, but they do not know any of these details. I think they should have these details if they have a birth certificate. Am I correct? Thank you for your help.

Cyndie Mae, I don't know about how things work in NJ, but I am an adoptee in NC and the only birth certificate that I have access to was amended to show my adoptive parents names and the county where THEY live, not necessarily where I was born .. I will have to petition the courts if I want access to my original birth certificate. Like I said, things may be different where you live, but in response to your post, adoptees won't necessarily have the information you mentioned. Good luck.

I was wondering how I can edit my "screen" name. And not have my real name up there? I guess I didn't realize it would be on my post as my real name. I hope you know what I'm saying! Thank-you. Jeanette
