I was born on December 3rd, 1968 in St. Paul, Mn. I am now father of 5, and would like to be able to share my children's heritage with them. Any help or advice is welcomed.
Thanks Last edited by david bird : 01-31-2004 at 08:49 AM. |

Just a suggestion...
David - congratulations on your first steps in the search. You will get a lot of specific advice from a lot of knowledgable people here.
Let me first suggest you go back and edit your post/subject. It is in the generic "looking for birth parents" forum, which is fine but your subject doesnt give anybody any key info to grab onto if your bdate or bplace catches their mind. There are so many posts here that many people scan but don't have time to read everyone. I might suggest a subject of "12/3/68 in St. Paul, Looking for Bparents..." or something like that. You might also try posting in the different forums that relate specifically to you - like the Mn forum for example. Good Luck! -Scott

Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board! If you know the name of the adoption agency you should contact them first to request information from the adoption file in their office. You might also ask what other services they will provide you. STATE ADOPTION SPECIALIST: (For questions about access to adoption related information and records) Minnesota Department of Human Services Children's Services 444 Lafayette Road North, Human Services Building St. Paul, MN 55155-3831 (651) 296-3740 Fax: (651) 297-1949 ACCESSING ADOPTION RECORDS: Obtaining Non-Identifying Information: Adoptive parents and adopted adults may obtain non-identifying information. Obtaining Identifying Information: Identifying information is provided on the original birth certificate, which is released according to the provisions below. Obtaining an Original Birth Certificate: An adopted adult can request a copy of the original birth certificate. At this time the Commissioner of Human Services will attempt to locate the birth parents to obtain consent to release the original birth certificate. If each birth parent is located and consents are given, the original birth certificate will be released. If there is no reply or contact with the birth parents, for adopted adults adopted before August 1, 1977, the adopted adult must petition the court for release of the original birth certificate. If the adoption was finalized on or after August 1, 1977, then the original birth certificate will be released to the adopted adult if the birth parents have not filed an access veto. Accessing Adoption Records: Adoption records are confidential for 100 years at which time they become public record.
