Question anyone here successfully gotten their hospital birth records?

Has anyone here succesfully accessed their birth records from a hospital? Me being a private adoption in '65, my chart would be listed under my aparents name but it almost seems too easy that the hospital would copy off my chart (with by bmom's name) and send it to me. Any advise on which way to go on this would be greatly appreciated!

Chris

I was able to get a copy of my Certificate of Live Birth from the hospital where i was born. But that was only because Oregon had passed a law giving adoptees the right to that information. As far as any other information from the hospitial, they would not give me anything because they did not want to go serching through their micro film and did not have the staff to do so.
Cheack with your states policy on obtaining your original birth records. It will probley cost some money, but it may give you a new avenue to serch down.

Chris~ I would say walk into the hospital and ask for your records. It's worth a try just do not mention being adopted. They may be able to give you some information even or even your file just out of their own stupidity. lol I have heard where some people have gotten their whole file. Best of luck! Keep me in the loop!!

Question HOSPITOL RECORDS

HI CHRIS...I FILED FOR MY BIRTH RECORDS...THE HOSPITOL SAID I AM NOT IN THEIR BIRTH BOOK. THEY TOLD ME IF I COULD COME UP WITH A BIRTH NAME OR A DIFFERENT BIRTH DATE...THEY WOULD LOOK AGAIN. THEY HAD LOOKED FOR OVER A YEAR AND NOTHING????? SO WE FILED FOR MY BROTHERS AND THEY SAID THEY FOUND HIM.....FINALLY IN THE OTHER BOOK???? HE RECIEVED HIS BIRTH RECORDS WITH NO BIRTH MOTHERS NAME. SO WE WONDERED IF THIS WAS NORMAL PROCEDURE AND SO WE FILED FOR MY SISTER IN LAWS BIRTH RECORDS. SHE WAS NOT ADOPTED. HERS CAME BACK WITH BIRTH MOTHER AND FATHERS NAME.WE FILED FOR MY SISTERS....NO BIRTH MOTHERS NAME. SO I WENT TO MY DOCTOR AND HE FILED FOR MY RECORDS FROM ALL THE HOSPITOLS IN THE CITY.EVERYONE SAYS .....NO ME....???? ON THE BASTURDS WEBSITE...THERE IS OVER 300 REMARKS THAT THE HOSPITOLS WILL GIVE YOU WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO RETRIEVE BIRTH RECORDS. DO NOT MENTION ADOPTION....WHEN APPLYING! GOOD LUCK! JANET

medical records

I tried to get mine. Called the hospital, told them I wanted my medical records, ( giving them my birthname, not my aname). They sent me the "release forms" to fill out. Problem is, they want your SS#, and alot of other info that would not match.
I opted to just wait for my Non ID. This was a hospital in California though... dont know iof they all do that?

Response from the Search Guru, Moderator for the Search and Reunion Message Board

Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board!

Different hospitals have different rules about what they will release. Often your best bet is to have your family Dr. request your infant file from the hospital using his letterhead. I have heard of someone who requested their infant file using their birth name and a clerk sent this person the birthmother's file! So it is always worth a try...

Do not say you were adopted. Tell them you need your medical records (from the date you were born) and give them your birth name. If they ask why you need these records, tell them your doctor has requested you get them.

I was a private adoption so my aparents would have paid my bmom's hospital bill in which case (i've heard) the records would be listed under their names. I was talking with someone who works at a hospital as a RN and was told my chart would more than likey have ADOPTION stamped upon them and therefore the hospital won't give them to me. I have the form from the hospital to fill out....don't know yet if I should try on my own yet.

I'll keep ya'll posted!

Chris

hospital records

I thought my response went through, but obviously it didn't-
I am a mom-I got MY records from the hospital-they said I couldn't get my daughter's because she is 21-nothing about adoption-
MY records say her condition at birth, birth weight, time....You may not be able to get your mom's records, but you probably can get your own-Don't say adoption-write a letter-that's what I did-If they ask for ID, try another way, unless you've got something with your first name on it-
My experience was upstate NY-I'm going to try for hers again in the future-I'll say I'm her-hey-what else do I have to lose, right?Aimee
