Arrow Arcadia Florida Adoptee Searching...

...for birth family/relatives/siblings. I'm a Caucasian male born in Arcadia Florida on August 25, 1973.

This should sound familiar to anyone from Arcadia searching for me as Arcadia is a very small town.

I have been searching for you, mother and father for six years now. I do not know my birth name but I know I was given one and it was inked out according to what HRS told me. You have two grand sons that would like to sit on your lap and call you nana and papa.

WELCOME TO THE SEARCH AND REUNION MESSAGE BOARD!

If you know what adoption agency handled your adoption contact them for information from your adoption file that will help you with your search. If you were a private adoption or do not know the name of the adoption agency contact this office:

Florida Department of Children and Families

Tallahassee, FL 32399-0700
(850) 921-2177 or (850) 488-8000

INFORMATION THAT IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR STATE:

“Non-identifying information” is information from your adoption file about your birth parents. It generally includes ages, marital status, states of birth, education, religion, occupations and a physical description of your birth parents. It should also include the reason for relinquishment and may include information about your aunts, uncles and grandparents. It is called “non-identifying information” because it does not include any identifying information such as names, addresses or social security numbers. If you already have your non-identifying information but it is information given to your adoptive parents at the time of your adoption you should re-apply for the non-identifying information. Agencies are giving out much more comprehensive information now that they did in the past.

“Mutual Consent Registry” is a registry where adoptees and birth parents can register the adoption information. If both parties register normally the agency responsible for the registry will notify both parties that consent has been given to contact each other. Adoptees, adoptive parents and birth parents may register. There is a $35 (waivable) registration fee. A copy of your driver’s license or notarized proof of identification is required and you must state your role in the adoption (adoptee, adoptive parent or birthmother or birth father). To request a registration form contact this office:

Florida Adoption Reunion Registry (FARR)
Florida Department of Health
1317 Winewood Boulevard, Building 7
Tallahassee, FL 32399-0700

WARNING: Many searching adoptees and birth parents have noticed that Florida was one of the states that changed information on the amended birth certificate so that it may not reflect the true date of birth or place of birth.

Hello!

I know that I was placed into foster care under HRS. The adoptors hired Jim Dye. I have already gone this route, I have written HRS and they could only tell me that they verified my birth date and place of birth is correct and that I was given a full name at birth. This is ALL of what HRS has told me. They claim to have nothing more.

I have called the Dye Law Firm only to find out that Mr. Dye passed away a few years back. His son now runs the firm and he told me when the firm broke up the other attorney may have some files. I just called and left a message with Mr. Jim Dye Jr and am still waiting for his return call so I can ask him again for his fathers associates name.

I have already contacted Florida Department of Children and Families. They have absolutely NOTHING on me. I have even registered with FARR and there were no matches. I can't even get any non identifying information. I have written my local courthouse several times where the adoption was finalized and they continue to tell me that they have nothing in my file. I wrote the Arcadia Courthouse and they have NOTHING. I wrote the Ft. Myers Courthouse (where I was in foster care) for the heck of it and they have NOTHING. No information is anywhere to be found.

I have been emailing Lorraine Kratz at Vital Statistics for guidance and the information has been helpful and I am grateful but I am still getting no where.

Could you give me some information on an intermediary? How would an intermediary be able to contact my birth parents if the intermediary does not know my birth parents names?

I have done everything physically possible. I have just visited Arcadia this past weekend for the first time seeing if I could get anywhere in person. I went to the hospital and the lady was very helpful and friendly but there were NO records and whatever records there were, were destroyed years ago. The courthouse had no info.

What is my next step? Give up hope? Please help.

Thanks

-Arcadia Boy

Was your adoption also finalized in Florida? If it was finalized in another state your adoption file would be in the state where the legal action took place. Florida at one time had a Confidential Intermediary Service but discontinued it due to budget restraits.

My birth certificate says that I was born in Arcadia Florida so does my Certificate of Live Birth. It also says that I was born in DeSoto County August 25, 1973 at 8:03pm.

Can you tell me what this number is on my certificate? I know it stands for the county and hospital, but maybe the wrong county is written in the county of birth box and the right county is in the numbers?

Thank You

-Arcadia Boy
