"Option of Adoption" agency in Philadelphia?
We adopted our son in 1992 through an open adoption at the "Option of Adoption" in Philadelphia, PA .
However, this agency no longer exists, and therefore we no longer know how to send letters to our son's birth mother. We contacted the previous Director, and she does not know where the records are now located. Does anyone know who took over this agency? Thanks very much. |

Usually when an agnecy closes, all the records go to the state....this may complicate things, as they dont usually act as a go-between in open adoptions....and typically wont release the adoption information until the child is an adult...
Best guess, contact the Vital Statistics office in your state, and find out if they can help you... Good luck getting the information you need! |

option of adoption agency in PA
we also adopted from Option of Adoption. Our adoption was legal risk and long and drawn out the attorney who deal with our adoption told us the Fried's made no arrangements for the disposition of the agencies stuff so it went to the "state" our attorney's guess is that it's filed away in some office in Harrisburg... I'd love to hear your story.. nice to hear from others who used the same agency..

We adopted our son from Options in 1993 and our daughter from Adoption Arc in 1994 - we were in Philly this past August '09 with both kids for an Adoption Arc 15th year celebration. Our daughter was one of their first adoptions - anyway, we were seated at a table with another set of adoptive parents and he worked for State records (PA). We asked about what might have happened to our son's records, and he said that he remembered when all of Options records came in...I do not remember the couple's name but Adoption Ark is small and friendly - and this guy is PA local - so call them! We have yet to pursue this but as our son is now wanting to know more about his own background we will probably do so soon. Best of luck to us all!
