An unrealistic suggestion...?
This may be an unrealistic idea, but I'm looking over all these "in search of" posts, thousands of them, many of them archived... and I'm wondering if there might be a way to simplify this. A birthmother and an adoptee could very well be posting on the very same board and still never find each other, because there are just so MANY posts, nobody would ever be able to read through all of them.
What if there was a "search" function on this website where you could just type in the adoptee's date of birth, and all the listings (adoptees and birthparents) searching for that same date of birth would come up? The child's date of birth is the one piece of information that both the adoptee and the birthmother both have, in many cases. I've gone to "Search" and tried typing in birthdates, but it's inefficient... for one thing, it won't let you search for words less than 3 characters long, which rules out searching for numerical dates. Also, people type in dates all different ways, from numerical to abbreviating the name of the month to writing out the whole word "December" or whatever. What if a function was added to the "Search" page that would allow all those in search to type in a date and get a listing for every post containing that same date? I don't know if I'm explaining this very well... it just seems like it would make things a lot easier. I wonder if the forum administrators might consider adding something like that, a central database or search engine that dealt with nothing but birthdates from search posts. Just a thought. ~Sharon |

I've "cut and patched" your suggestion to the forum board administration. Sounds like a good idea to me too!

update member info
What if you made this a mandatory field for members, both future and present? Such as a title field which would require the member to select whether they are an adoptee, bmom, bdad, etc. From there, it would require the birth date field to be populated with a standard dating format of mm/dd/yyyy. That should be easy enough to do. Then you can go to the members page, and instead of searching by first letter of member name, you can enter a separate search for profile info (if a=adoptee AND b=04/30/1977 then return names). Just a suggestion...

Amen!

I've been wondering the same thing! There has to be an easier way to search. With all the computer knowledge, this site should make it much easier. I'm with you 100%!!!! Kathi Hardy |

Family Matters Adopiton Reunions L.L.C
We will be up and running at the end of this month. We have in excess of 50 different information search fields. We have a comparative database that will automatically compare and search information. This has been a long time in the making, and a long time needed. We will also be advertising to reach those who do not use or have access to computers. WATCH FOR US WE WILL BE EVERYWHERE. We are in Kasey Hamner's journal this month, in the adoption announcements COMING SOON!

I'm encouraged by sam's database. The date idea is good, but how many adoptee's know their birth parents DOB and in my case the date my son grew up with (and on his amended bc) is not the date he was born. All data searchs are exact match oriented.

good point patrisha
The registries that do have the comparative databases are exact match only. Ours is not dependant on exact matches. Ours will flag us to let us know of possible matches. Example: let's say someones son was born at Pulaski County memorial hospital in Little Rock Arkansas.........on April 23 1980. He has blond hair and blue eyes...........this is all of the information that he has of his birth. But it is AMENDED information and he was actually born april 22 1980.........now...........the birthmother comes into the system and enters his actual birth date and the place he was born.......they are not an EXACT match......................but they do enter the same place of birth and simular dates..........our system WILL pull this information together, so that it can be further examined as a possible match. This is just an small example of how our system will work......but like I said before we have in excess of 50 search information fields......................

I'm embarased to admit that I do not remember the exact date of my second bchild's birth, but if I found a close birth date from Big Spring, Texas(a city of about 30,000), we could at least explore the possibilities.
