RESOURCES IN ARIZONA:

An adoptee age 21 years or older can request “identifying information”. If the birthparent has given consent to have this information released. The adoptee can also petition the court in the county where the adoption was finalized for a “compelling need”. If you have not filed your consent yet this is a good option.

The following people can request a search for a birth family member: birth siblings 21 years or older, adoptive parents, adoptee 21 years or older, the immediate adult relatives of a deceased adopted adult, birth parent or birth grandparents if the birth parents are deceased. The “Confidential Intermediary Program” is a service sponsored by the state of Arizona that will search for and locate the birth family member that you are looking for. This program agency will make the first contact but if the person contacted declines contact the agency will not give you the information to contact them yourself. There is usually a fee associated with this service through the governing agency of adoptions for your state of adoption. Contact this office for information:
