I just took a few steps and I might be of some help to you
what you can do is this
call harrisburg PA and get the adoption office there on the phone
I think website with contact information is www.adoptPAkids.com
once you get them on the phone you have to get a form and put in the records that you want to be contacted if your child is looking for you.
It is some consent to be found form, if you move, or what not, keep that form updated with current contact information.

Unfortunately for birthparents the search is much harder but if you can get your hands on the adopted birth certificate, then you have the new adopted name and the search then becomes easier.
In speaking to the nice girl at the harrisburg office, she said she receives about 100-150 phone calls a week from birth parents looking for their children, and all they can do is fill out this consent form and add it to the sealed records, in PA if a child is looking, you write to harrisburg with a check for 4 bucks to get a copy of your
Medical history, you put in the form that you want identifying and non identifying information from your birth records
If that consent form IS in fact there, then when the child if they choose to look, will be very easy to track you down cause the state will say okay the consent to be found form is in the file so at that point when you get your medical history, you get origional birth certificate and the child also gets your contact information without waiting for it or having to do endless searches.
Actually if that consent form is in there from either birth father or birth mother, there is really no search involved at all
I just sent my request away on Monday
She said they are really short handed so it might take a few weeks
hell I have waited 32 years what is a few weeks?

Just if you want to, call them and fill out that consent form and send it in asap
that is your best shot
God I hope my mother and or father have that in my file, if not im sort of back to square one
Good luck with your search

Jason

OOps im sorry I see that your the adoptee not the birth parent
well the PA records will have you as being born in PA yes and will have the medical information but the files will also have some NY records and to go to court to petition the court, the rules and regulations will be the county that the adoption was finalized.
so if your adoption was finalized in NY then their the ones you will have to petition to get sealed records opened.
Good luck in your search
Jason

Shelbysmom...the best place to get an answer to what U R asking is to go to the court where you were adopted. They will tell you what the requirements are to meet your request. If there is a court of Common Pleas, or any parts of the Courts that deal with adoption issues, they will know and will share the requirements for you to gain the info you are seeking...that is not to say that if you follow the requirements you will gain the info.
