Question how does it work?

Just what is a birth index? I'm new to searching. Someone said to look in the newspaper for births. Would an adopted baby even be listed and how? And I can get this info from the library? Can someone answer or pm me, Thanks. Sandy drannis@mindspring.com

Red face Re: Going Around the System

I was adopted in Texas. Any idea if Texas has any information available like Ohio? If you can help, please email me: readthebook@sbcglobal.net.

Thanks a million!

to get the non-id information you have to go to your state vital statics office and fill out paperwork and they will send them thru the mail to you. you will have to probably fill out paper work to be put into the state adoption registry, which in turn they will see if they have a match for someone looking for you and if they do, then they contact you. the non-id information is information that is not handed out or is sometimes not on your birth certificate. some times it helps and other times it just shows info that you might already have but it is worth a try. do not go to the library for the non-id information, you have to go to the state you were born in vital statics office. most states list all new births in the paper, depending on the year but say back 10yrs ago or farther they did. go to the library in their archives dept. and ask to see the paper say the day after you were born. give them your birth date and they will have the full paper on a reel which you have to put on a micro machine and look up the births. i know in illinois the births are listed along with the mother, father names and their address. if you were adopted at birth, it may or may not be in there. if there is more than one hospital, then you have to look in the paper for the hospital births that you were born in. it is just another chance you take. a state birth index is sometimes also available at the vital statics office which a list of all births for that state on the day. i am looking for my fiance mother and i have done just about everything so if i can help, email me at labontewoman43@aol.com if i can answer any questions i will. also everyone make sure you are listed in the ISRR which is the international soundex reunion which is the largest adoption registry in the world. the web site is http://www.plumsite.com/isrr/ go to the site and it will tell you to print off the paperwork and send it in with a pre stamped envelope and they will let you know when they receive it and they also due matches and will let you know if they come up with information pertaining to your adoption. also if department of family and children service (dcfs) was involved in your case, contact midwest adoption agency and they will due you case for no cost. they also have a website with their phone and etc. they also due other searches but their is a cost. they are helping me because dcfs was involved in my fiance's case and they got a hold of the orginal dcfs case files and sent them to me and now are looking for his mother also. also there is "search angels" on the web that will be glad to help you due your search for no fee, just type in search angels and pull up a site. karen

try getting the birth index of your state for the year you was born at the public library (it has to be the biggest library in your area) and if that don't work, try going to your vital statics office and ask for one and the courthouse should have one for a fee. lostminded76 or labontewoman43@aol.com

If you know someone who has Ancestry.com, Texas does have the birth index online up to 1987 or 1988. Texas also has the marriage index and divorce indexes online. Good Luck!

birth record indexes?

What is it, and what good is it if you don't know the biological parents names?
