Hi Scott...I agree..closed records really do suck!!!

I am a birthmother, I searched for & found my own son in 1996 without using a computer at all, plus his records are still sealed to this very day. And above all of that, I didn't know his name for the first 3 years of my search, only his original name that I gave him at birth, his date of birth, hospital, & adoption agency.

You need to go to the library or a book store and get a book on adoption search. They are filled with helpful information and guide you in how to conduct a search. That is what I did. I have posted my story on how I found my son on this site. You should read it.

You need to start with the known information that you already have available. Contact the agency that handled your adoption...they may have a release from your birthmother inside your file, giving them permission to give you her information should you request it from them. I did this myself, so it is not impossible for this to be true. Maybe not...but always worth a try. Cut out as many middlemen as possible...

Try to obtain a copy of your "original" birth certificate, you get an amended birth certificate when you're adopted.

Contact the hospital and request copies of your personal birth records...
