i dont know where to post this, so i will start here and it can be moved to the proper place.

my name is douglas stanley i was born on november 8, 1985, in covington, louisiana. it was a closed adoption i want to find my real parents, i just had a baby and i need to know some things about them. what do i do and where do i start? im totally new to this, so any help would be great.

Welcome, Doug! I wish you much luck in your search!! To get you started, I'm going to give you a small list of things to do. Others will add to it, I'm sure...

I'll start with things you can do on this site:

First, Register your information on the Reunion Registry on this site. Even if you don't have anthing more than your birthdate and city, a match can be made. As you get more information you can update your registration. Make sure you use a permanent email address (or update it if you EVER change your email address!). Sometimes, if you don't get matched right away, people come along much later and they can't locate you if you have changed your email and not updated it here.

Second, draft a post and start a thread in both the "Loiusiana Adoption Records" and the "Born or Adopted in 1985 Records" boards. To find these, scroll down on the main "Search and Reuinion" threads list. ** Make sure you title your thread with only the most important information, ie; ISO Birthfamily Male born 11/8/85 Covington, Louisiana or Male ISO BFamily born Nov 8,1985 Covington, LA, you get the idea. This will let others that are searching for you see by the title that there is a possible match. It also allows search angels, that may be able to assist you, see what they need to see to determine if they can help you.

If you need advice on how to word your post, look some of them up and see how they were written. If you get more information later on, you can always reply to your own post with updated information as you acquire it. Here's one of mine. I started with little info and updated as I got more.. Male born 8-28-65/Whittier, CA/Los Angeles Co ISO Birthfamily

After you have done what you can on this forum, pull up the ISRR website, ISRR , print up a registration form, fill it out, make a copy for your records and mail it in. It's the largest registry that I know of and many many matches are just waiting to be made through this site.

Once you have done this, as you have time, use the 'Search this Forum' sections of the threads that may apply to you to look for people that may be a match.

If you don't have your Non-Identifying information, you really should send for that. I'm sure there will be someone reading this that knows where to send for that information in LA.

I don't know anything about how to search in Louisiana, so hopefully you will get some more responses and PMs with suggestions.
