Hello
I am really new to all this and to tell the truth I never thought I would be looking for a family member . This last weekend I was told along with my younger sister, that we have a half sister born in Iowa city Iowa in may of 1958 which would make her 50 this may .I have been doing some research and have discovered ..........sealed records.....need a court order....etc My mother was forced to give this baby girl up at birthby her parents and she has struggled with the guilt and sorrow since she is now 71 years old and wanted to come out with this info she said she hasnt said anything till now because of the fear of what we would think and the shame she has delt with for almost 50 years. What my questions are .....where do I start ....what are my rights as a sibling...any help would be great Thanks Larry |

Larry,
I am also looking for a half sister born in INDIANIA and I am also new at this and running into the same thing with sealed records. I did find to websites that you can try I had no luck with them but please try as you never know. Try theadoptiondatabase@googlegroups.com There is alot of adoptees listed there. I also found CousinConnect.com - Advanced Search Form I regestered my info there and everyday check back at that site cause new people register there eveyday. I'm not real computer smart so I did an andvance search on aol with my mothers name. I've struck out but hey I really hope you try theese three things cause you never know, she could be looking for you!! Best Wishes. Teresa |

Hey Larry,
Its Teresa again. I went back and reread my letter and for some reason it changed the second website to cousinConnect but I use adopteeconnect. I don't know why it did that. Try them all who knows. Good luck. |

Hi Larry,
Please register your info in the registry on this site and other sites. Check all registries and consider blogging. Search and Reunion message boards can be helpful too. Sometimes just googling (or any search engine) the facts will bring up new possiblities to explore. I checked the registry on this site and there is a female born in Iowa in May of 58 but with a different city which may or maynot exclude her. The lack of records / documentation / changes consciously made to protect the identity, can cause a lot of road blocks but keep going. I also recommend that you do not post all the info you have, because there are scammers out there and you need to protect yourself. Always have a way to confirm and if you are not sure, invest in dna testing. Best of luck in your quest. Kind regards, Dickons |

Hi, I am also very new at this as I found out last year I have a half sister born in Iowa 1947. My question is has anyone tried the Court minutes or Court Docket? This is a listing of who would appear before a judge. One place I read this was open to the public like those searching for family members. I live in Michigan and it is a little hard to check the records at a court house in Iowa City.
